Market of mineral fertilisers in Poland

Currently, the production and application of fertilisers is determined by agrochemical, economic and ecological aspects. According to estimates, farmers spend up to 20% of their funds allocated to agricultural production on fertilisers and their application. Fertilisation is a key yield-increasing factor; however, yield gains generated by fertilisers are 50-70% depending on dose levels.

As fertiliser production is concentrated in large units, the industry is perceived to be a nuisance to the environment. Waste produced by the fertiliser industry contributes to around 30-40% of total waste generated by the chemical industry. Significant quantities of NH3 emitted to the atmosphere and N2O often transmitted to the ozone layer in the stratosphere, come from fertilisers. In the total balance of energy used by agriculture, 40-60% is intended for the production.
