THE EFFECT OF SOWING DATE AND HARVEST DATE ON YIELDS AND PROTEIN CONTENT IN GRAIN OF OATS

In field experiments (2005
2007) effect of sowing date (optimal and 10 days late) and harvest date (optimal, 7 days late and 14 days late) on yield components and protein content in grain of oats was investigated. Grain yield decrease at retarded sowing date was caused by decrease of panicle number per area unit and a small decrease (not signifi cant) of grain number per panicle and weight of 1000 grain. Yield decrease at delayed harvest date was caused by decrease of grain number per panicle in consequence of grain shattering weight. Both experiment factors did not change signifi cantly total protein content in oat grain. True protein content in grain decreased signifi cantly at delayed sowing date and increased insignifi cantly at delayed harvest date. Protein-free nitrogen content in oat grain increased at delayed sowing date. Interaction between sowing date and harvest date of oats was insignifi cant. Albumins and globulins content in true protein of oats depended on sowing date. Delayed sowing date infl uenced negatively on their content. Small decrease of albumins and globulins content in true protein was observed at delayed harvest date.
